John Bogle

Here we go again…The stock market roller coaster ride is back with a vengeance.

Are you wondering what the founder of the Vanguard Group John Bogle, has in his portfolio? Here you go, courtesy of Market Watch.

As for Bogle, he’s plenty happy with his age-based investing formula. “I’ve always had in the back of my mind this incredibly simplistic idea, that your bond position should have something to do with your age,” he said.

In his retirement portfolio today, he’s got two-thirds of his bond portfolio in the Vanguard Total Bond Index fund VBMFX 10.62, +0.03, +0.28%) for Average Joe investors and (VBTLX 10.62, +0.03, +0.28%) for those who can afford the minimum initial investment of $100,000 in Admiral shares) and one-third in the Short-Term Investment Grade bond fund (VFSTX 10.73, 0.00, 0.00%) and (VFSUX 10.73, 0.00, 0.00%) for Admiral shares.

In his personal portfolio, Bogle’s got two-thirds of his bond portfolio in the Vanguard Intermediate-Term Tax-Exempt bond fund (VWITX 13.59, +0.01, +0.07%)(VWIUX 13.59, +0.01, +0.07%) for Admiral shares) and one-third in the Vanguard Limited-Term Tax-Exempt bond fund (VMLTX 11.06, 0.00, 0.00%) and VMLUX 11.06, 0.00, 0.00% for Admiral shares. Bogle didn’t specify whether he owned Admiral shares or not, but we’d venture to guess he can afford the minimum initial investment.
